12 Days of Microsoft Teams | Day 10

Why Multi-window is Crucial to MS Teams Adoption

Welcome to Day 10 of PixelMill’s ’12 Days of Microsoft Teams’ series! Tired of having to close out of the meeting view every time your co-worker sends you a much-appreciated cat GIF? Your day has come! GIF on, my friends. Enjoy!

You Make A Better Door Than a Window 🚪

If you’ve been following our 12 Days series, you’ve heard this feature mentioned multiple times. Perhaps this is because we personally yearn for this feature to calm our daily frustrations? Well, we’re not alone. As of today, this feature has 12,388 votes in User Voice, making it the third most requested feature. So what makes this feature so important? In our opinion, multi-window is one of the few missing pieces to Microsoft delivering a true productivity OS.

Window on the World 🌍

It’s clear that Microsoft is working hard to keep us working in Teams. This is great news for those of us looking to make our workdays more efficient. Switching between platforms is not only annoying; it’s a time suck. By pulling our most-used tools into one platform, we’re empowering our team to get more done in less time. It also helps streamline workflows and makes information more readily available and accessible, helping us avoid recreating the wheel. If Microsoft does want us to stay in Teams, this feature is the linchpin.

Crack a Window 😎

The lack of the multi-window feature brings the most frustration during meetings. Often, a screen is being shared (or you’re sharing), notes are being taken, there’s a chat or conversation about the meeting, etc., all at the same time. There is a workaround that many Teams users have adopted—run both the desktop app and browser simultaneously to create your own multi-window experience.

A Window of Opportunity 🔮

The great news is, Microsoft has heard our plea! Multi-window capabilities will be released to the public in early 2020. We can’t wait to see what this feature will offer and how it can help transform digital teamwork.

What? Anchor links now work in #SharePoint site navigation! This fix snuck in and I completely missed it. Use them to create a TOC for long pages or cross link between pages. They work in text or quick links web parts & nav too! https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-and-use-modern-pages-on-a-sharepoint-site-b3d46deb-27a6-4b1e-87b8-df851e503dec#bkmk_pageanchors
