Microsoft Teams is your new conversation platform

A few years back, we adopted Slack (a group, slightly threaded, chat solution). We had been using Skype for Business, Yammer, SharePoint, and email for internal office communication but were having issues with adhoc conversations and retention. Slack provided a timely solution for us that brought out conversations, both direct and group based, into one platform. The major catch was this was not integrated directly into our Office 365 tenant. Microsoft Teams filled this gap, and although there have been hiccups along the way, and there are features in Teams we sure would like to see, we have almost completely shut down internal emails in favor of Microsoft Teams for internal communication and collaboration.
To paraphrase Microsoft’s description, Microsoft Teams provides a solution for your inner loop, or those people you interact with continually on projects. Currently Teams is best for internal conversations as there is much to be desired for Teams’ ability to connect with those outside of your O365 tenant. But we have full faith in Microsoft that this will be ironed out.
Teams offers so much more. Skype capabilities will contineu to fold into Teams. Groupified SharePoint team sites (modern and classic) will become more integrated as well. Teams offers a tab feature and we expect to see more 3rd party vendors and applications integrate directly into Teams. You can build adaptive cards as well as well as deploy bots directly into Teams to run workflows, capture data, display data, and look to make work more personal and efficient.
If you haven’t already, get started with Microsoft Teams now, or at least run it in a pilot group to help determine best strategies for your organization.
