The Future of the Mobile-Friendly SharePoint App

Recently Jeff Teper, Microsoft Corporate Vice President of One Drive and SharePoint kicked off “The Future of SharePoint” made it clear that SharePoint is only going to get better. The new and future SharePoint is much of what we have been waiting for: mobile-friendly, security-driven, and last but not least, empowering.
As highlighted in the opening video with Satya Nadella, Microsoft is further devoted to reinventing productivity and collaboration through SharePoint and Office 365. In the midst of many exciting announcements last week, there is one that caught everyone’s attention the preview and upcoming release of the new SharePoint Mobile App.
With the SharePoint Mobile App, designed for IOS, Windows, and Android, you can have robust access to all of the rich features and applications that SharePoint has to offer at the touch of a screen, bringing your Intranet to your pocket (or purse). The new app is secure for IT and user-ready for the first release in the next few weeks with a full release over this year. Microsoft announced the SharePoint Mobile App will be available for Office 365, as well as for on-premise deployments of SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint 2016. And let’s not forget hybrid as well.
The SharePoint Mobile App will surface organizational team sites, their portals, as well as their mission critical biz apps backed with a blend of three key ingredients: Office 365 Groups, Office Graphs and Office 365 Governance, Security, and Compliance. With seamless integration, intelligence, and defense the SharePoint Mobile Application raises the bar in innovation. Now each user will have “full-fidelity access” to SharePoint, making it easy for them to view and interact with a host of information when they are on-the-go. You can readily catch-up on the latest document updates and connect with colleagues, all while having complete access to each site, multitudes of content, and your most-frequented apps.
Yet, one of the most impactful user experience aspects of the SharePoint Mobile App is its individuality highly supported by the intelligence of Office Graphs. Through Office Graphs, you can see what sites you access the most, as well as ones you select to follow. It’s a virtual workspace that morphs to fit your activity. Not only is there a more unique and personalized user experience, but also a more efficient one with simplified navigation. And, that’s not all. Now you can have access to key organizational links in a matter of seconds. Your tenant admins can create site links that are all stored in one central resource hub, resulting in quicker access to company documents and files.
Another exciting and unexpected element of the new SharePoint Mobile App is the Shake for Feedback Feature. If you are feeling frustrated or have a question that requires an expert, look no further. Just shake your phone. This motion will trigger a pop-up that will allow you to report a problem or suggest an idea. With a customer-first approach, Microsoft is dedicated to the user experience in all facets.
Since the birth of SharePoint and Office 365, Microsoft has continued to build a group of incredibly dedicated SharePoint followers and thought-leaders that are driven by the desire to innovate and provide solutions that enhance the virtual workplace. Now those same experts are raising the bar by allowing big and small businesses alike to grow in exponential ways through accessible and customizable mobile-friendly technology.
